Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital received 195 folding beds
worth 2,694,701 UAH, thanks to which parents will be able to stay next to their child directly in the wards both day and night.
The delivery of beds took place within the family-centered care support program implemented by Ronald McDonald House Charities Ukraine with financial support from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ukraine.
The new beds were specially designed for use in medical facilities. It was at Okhmatdyt that doctors and parents first tested their prototypes, after which the design was refined based on feedback. As a result, the beds are mobile, easy to care for, and made from medical-grade durable materials. Along with them, the hospital received pillows, blankets, and bedding sets.
“This program is extremely important for creating a comfortable and safe environment not only for our patients, but also for parents. A mother who is ready to stand by her child around the clock is actually exhausted after a week, which does not help the child at all. A family’s comfortable stay in the hospital allows them to provide the best possible care for the patient. And this, in turn, is a great help to our doctors in performing their professional duties,” emphasizes Oleksandr Urin, General Director of Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital.
In total, Ronald McDonald House Charities Ukraine plans to deliver 1,400 beds to 46 children’s hospitals across Ukraine with a total value of more than 20 million hryvnias.
“This project is not just about comfort. It is about support and the opportunity for a sick child not to be left alone, and will help make the hospital environment even more humane, family-centered, and supportive for every family,” notes Halyna Solovey, Director of Ronald McDonald House Charities Ukraine.
The partnership between Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House Charities Ukraine has been ongoing for many years. Together we implement the principles of family-centered care: we develop services for patients and their families, conduct training for medical staff, and help create conditions in which a child can receive the best treatment outcomes alongside their loved ones thanks to the Family Room and Ronald McDonald House programs.
