When children are hospitalized, they often spend their days wearing pajamas. Pajamas provide comfort, warmth, and a sense of home during a difficult time. That is why every year the Foundation organizes Pajama Day, a nationwide charity campaign that supports seriously ill children and reminds them that they are not alone.
This year, all funds raised during the Pajama Day campaign will support the construction of the Ronald McDonald House in Ukraine. Together, we will build a House with 50 private family rooms on the grounds of Okhmatdyt, Ukraine’s largest children’s hospital. We call this program a “home away from home” because it provides families of hospitalized children with the comfort, care, and support they need while their child receives treatment. Families will be able to stay in comfortable private bedrooms for as long as their child needs medical care. They will also have access to a fully equipped kitchen, shared living areas, a playroom, and a library. By taking care of everyday needs, the House allows parents to focus on what matters most—their child’s recovery.
Located just steps away from the hospital, the Ronald McDonald House will be especially important for families who travel from other cities and rural communities and cannot afford temporary accommodation in Kyiv during their child’s treatment.
Nearly 400 Ronald McDonald House programs have been built and are supported by generous donors around the world, including more than 100 across Europe. Similar Houses already serve families in neighboring countries, including 12 in the Netherlands, 10 in France, and 3 in Poland. The Ronald McDonald House in Ukraine will be the country’s very first.
We launched Pajama Day for the first time in 2019, bringing people together around one shared goal—to help families stay close to their hospitalized children. The campaign received an incredible response and quickly became an annual tradition. Today, Pajama Day is the largest and most recognized fundraising campaign of Ronald McDonald House Charities Ukraine, uniting hundreds of thousands of caring Ukrainians, bloggers, celebrities, businesses, students, and media partners to support seriously ill children and their families.
